Anyone remember the beehive hairdo? If you weren’t around in the sixties, you don’t know what we’re talking about, and that’s okay. Like hairstyles and clothing, window treatment trends come and go throughout the years. This year’s window treatments range from ultra modern to retro and everything in between. That means no matter what style you’re interested in most, there will be a window treatment that meets your needs.

Organic Looking Material

Organic foods aren’t the only organic thing that is trending these days. One type of window treatment that uses organic materials like bamboo, have become very popular.

One reason for this is that they are still very unique, and buck the trend of sterile white dropdown shades that are found in a lot of houses these days. A lot of people love the idea of bucking convention by doing something against the grain. If that’s you there are several organic-style materials available.

Color

As we said above, convention for the longest time has been shades of white in a lot of homes. One of the reasons for that is that white goes with almost every décor, and white shades often come cheaper because they are more common (meaning there is a larger supply).

One of the window treatment trends of this year is the addition of color. Now that shades can be customized to the hilt, it isn’t uncommon for decorators to splurge and customize the color of the window treatments in each room. While this makes it much more expensive should you ever choose to redesign, it will add that extra little bit of flare your room might have been missing.

Luxury Fabrics

Another window treatment trend you should be aware of is what the industry is calling luxe fabrics. These are dropdown fabrics, often times, contain extra flare (like tassels) and color to look extra luxurious. These also usually have elegant designs embedded into the fabric as well.

Minimalistic and Modern

Perhaps the biggest trend we’re seeing this year is a return to ultra modern and simple minimalistic designs. One of the reasons for this is that décor has also trended in this direction. A lot of time you don’t need the flashiness of lots of color, or the extravagance of the frills of luxe fabrics in order for the window treatments to look awesome in your house.

These simple designs often use straightforward lines and no frill designs. While this isn’t the trend for everyone, it has become very popular with people going for modern or minimalistic design.
